Gajendra Khanna Remembers Francisco Casanovas

Many people contributed to western style tunes coming to Hindi films. One such person was Francisco Casanovas who came from Spain, spending some years in India and was instrumental with his orchestra for many melodies being recorded.

Gajendra Khanna Remembers him through some of those songs through this programme. He is thankful to Dr Suresh Chandvankar and Naresh Fernandes (who wrote the lovely book Bombay Foxtrot) as well as discogs website for some of their inputs.

Gajendra Ji, thanks for presenting Farncisco Casanovas , some one I have not known earlier. ‘Yaad aaye ki na .. ” connection was a pleasant surprise.

Once upon a time, India was a great draw for musicians from abroad. What was the reason for this attraction? There were also an era when jazz music was played in many clubs in Bombay. Oh for those times !!

Yes great times. Even kolkata had a night club scene as did some other places. Many artists came from abroad to participate in the clubs. There were of course visitors earlier for the various bands and church choirs too. I feel many would have been brought earlier to play along with the silent movies in the cinema halls.

When these songs by Pankajda or Hemantda were played in Radio Ceylon, announcers mentioned music by Casanova orchestra. Many thanks for your bringing to life Senor Casanova.

Very interesting and very nostalgic presentation of these old gems, brought back my childhood memories, my eldest brother used to play these songs and I enjoyed them stil encrypted in my memories, thanks to you, I loved it 🙏❤️
