One day Suresh ji came back from office and was surprised to find a carton waiting for him from the office of Guru Dutt Films Pvt Ltd (around 1992). Accompanying it was a letter that said that their office was shifting and wanted him to have all the records dumped in their godown. He went through and found many records in it including those of Kagaz Ke Phool. Among those, was an interesting test record marked for a bengali film Gauri. This was a movie launched in 1957 which had got shelved!

Here is the first song sung by a female singer and its cover called Jaani Bhromora Keno recorded on 13 Nov 1957 as per the writing on it. Can you guess who has sung it?

This is the second one Ustadi Taar Tiklona. Tell us how many voices are there and who are they?!

He also remembers that in 1969, Gandhi ji's centenary year was to be celebrated. The government wanted to get a special recording done and invited composer Vasant Desai (who was working for them at the time). They contemplated what songs to be recorded. They then thought of Bapu's letter to Maniben, daughter of Sardar Patel. She had some doubts about God. (where does God live, how does he look like, what should we ask him and what boon should we ask"?

He replied very lovingly to her

Vasant Desai Sahab got it recorded by Manna Dey sahab and thus we have this song whose lyricist was Gandhiji!

There were many records made by the govt and many ended up in their godowns. Suresh ji was once walking in Chor Bazaar of Bombay when he found a stack of white records (150 of them!). He asked the vendor how much they'd be worth. He was told Rs 10 if you want one record, if you take all, 50 paise for each! Suresh ji bought all and shared with friends including with us now. He contacted Roy ji of Manna Dey's site and shared. He immediately made Manna Dey sahab listen on the phone and Manna Dey was so glad that he shed tears of joy. He said he had never heard it since it got recorded. So enjoy this Manna Dey song whose lyricist is Gandhiji!
