Radio Ceylon (now Srilanka Broadcasting Corporation -SLBC) started its Hindi Services on 30th March, 1950. Congratulations to all lovers of it on the anniversary. It always played the best variety of songs from the rare to even the rarest of rare.

It probably had the greatest record collection. Here is a lovely picture shared by our music lover friend Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji on Facebook, enough to make any serious old music lover crazy. Thanks to him and his friend who took the pic for sharing it.

It still continues to be available in form of the SLBC Hindi Service. The Hindi Service is available every morning from 0550h to 0800h on most days (some days goes on till 0815h). It used to come earlier at night from 1800h to 2000h but according to Mukund ji this transmission stopped from 1st April 2008. He also informs us that a one hour program titled "Namaste India" (with a mixture Hindi and English songs) is broadcast from 9:00 to 10:00 on 25m band and the internet. it still plays a program of rare programs in the morning. People can never forget their quality of programs, announcers and songs.

Prof Kirat Pal has shared its operating Short Wave frequencies as follows:-

1. 25 meter  11905KHz
2. 41 meter  7190KHz

Wish the station could make it available for online listening like some of its services in the coming days.

Update: The station has in fact made their stream available on their website.

You can visit their website at http://www.slbc.lk every morning from 0550 to 0800h.

Your post regarding Radio Ceylon is good. I am not sure when you have posted it, but it is for certain that it is post July 2009. BY the was SLBC stopped night transmission of Hindi program from April 1, 2008. However, a one hour program titled "Namaste India" (with a mixture Hindi and English songs) is broadcast from 9:00 to 10:00 on 25m band and the internet. Today is Md.Rafi sab's 31st Punyatithi SLBC's Jyothi Parmarji presented a wonderful program yesterday. As I write this post, I am listening to another program being presented as a tribute to the greatest singer of all times.
