Parbat Pe Apna Dera 1944 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gajendra
Have been thinking for sometime about which of V. Shantaram's movies is my favourite one as far as the soundtracks are concerned. For me, it is probably one of his least talked of movies. Its not even mentioned on imdb as part of his filmography. It wasn't even there sometime back. I tried to add it though. Maybe its due to some historical reason but I love its music a lot. There's something very addictive and nice about the songs of the movie.
The music by Vasant Desai is very good. None of the songs of the album can said to be bad.
The lyricist is a Deewan Sharar. I have no information on him. Wonder what happened to him. The songs have really nice lyrics. Listening to them is a great treat.
1. Parbat Pe Apna Dera (Title Song) by Parshuram
Parshuram sings the song with lots of energy. There is a nice timbre to his voice. I remember a Parshuram singing years later for Sardar Malik's Saaranga. Both are probably the same. I wonder why such a bassy voice wasn't heard much.

2. Jinko Na Kabhi Kuchh Aaye Nazar by Amirbai
1944 is the period when Amirbai was at her peak. One can see why thats so when one listens to it. Here's the audio:-
3. Humse Kar Le Preet Ri Jogan, Humse Kar Le Preet by Vasant Desai and Naseem Akhtar
For those curious about how Vasant Desai sounded when he sang, this is a nice song to listen to with the use of Kabir's Dohas and Tulsidas as well to good effect. This is one of two duets by the duo. I love the song for the way both sing with a tinge of acting, asking to be loved. The way Naseem sings, "jogi kiske meet re", "pothi padhi padhi jag mua" are so endearing.  Here it is for your enjoyment.

4. Aa Niklo Guiyaan Meri Gali Se, Raaten Guzaari Maine by Vasant Desai and Naseem Akhtar
This is the second duet by the duo and is no less than the other one. Nice singing by both.
Audio:-
5. Aati Hai Ek Baar Bulbul Ki Ritu Bahaar by Khan Mastana
Khan Mastana has two solos in the movie and the 'soz' with which he sings is absolutely great. I think Zohra's leading the chorus too but am not 100% sure about this.  Here's the song:-

6. Jo Dard Ban Ke Zamaane Pe Chhaye Jaate Hain by Zohrabai Ambalewali
Zohra's rendition of this song is one of the best songs of this movie for me. Zohra bai had one of the best "masala" voices with great range. May God bless her memory.

Audio:-
7. Sapnon Mein Aanewaale Humko Jaga Rahe Hain by Khan Mastana
Khan Mastana's second solo is also quite delightful. Tune in to enjoy it.
Audio:-
8. Aankhon waale tu dekh ke chal haan dekh ke chal by Lalita Deulkar and Parshuram
Parshuram returns for a duet with Lalita deulkar which I find extremely nice especially the lyrics. The rendition is of course great. It appears in two parts in the movie apparently. Enjoy it here:-

Part 2
9. Pareshaan Hoon Ki Kyon Meri Pareshaani Nahin Jaati by Amirbai Karnataki (or is it Zohra?)
I have left my favourite for last. This is my pick of the album. The lyrics are quite fabulous really and the rendition great. Its credited to Amirbai as per records. i am not so sure on listening to it on film. Let me know your opinion on it.
Audio:-
Sample some of the lyrics of the song to know what I mean:-
(i) Pareshaan Hoon Ki Kyon Meri Pareshaani Nahin Jaati
(ii) Ladakpan to gaya par meri Nadaani Nahin Jaati
(iii) Main hairaan Hoon Ki Kyon Aankhon Ki Hairaani Nahin Jaati
(iv) Halawat Hai Mohabbat Ki Ya Larkat Hai Yeh Hasrat Ki, Kasak Ek Si Hai Donon Mein Ki Pehchaani Nahin Jaati
(v) Yahi Meri tamanna Hai Mujhe Barbaad Rehne Do, Mujhe Barbaad Rehne Do oh oh, Magar Dil Ki Bhi Har Ek Baat To Maani Nahin Jaati
Using the similar words to rhyme with itself so wonderfully. And the meaning in the antras is so different and fabulous. May God bless Deewan Sharar.
Hope you like the album as much as I do.
The movie is available for listening on Shemaroo's Vintage channel here.

Watch the first Parshuram song again please, you can see Amirbai's Jinko Na Kabhi at the end. They sang this for Vanmala and Ulhas.

Naseem Akhtar and Khan Mastana were great too, which were picturised on Madan Mohan, Kantakumari and Ulhas.

The beautiful theme song of Lalita Deolkar and Parshuram were on Parshuram himself and Baby Nalini.

I agree a lot about Zohrabai Ji's super-masala voice, which she gained with great classical training. It is one of her best songs, of course. She was at her peak from 1944.

Amirbai was already the top playback singer from 1943-in Qismat. I love her songs here too. Iam 100% sure that the last song is by Amirbai, typically her golden voice.

My favourites were the songs of my dears and incomparable Zohrabai Ji and Amirbai Ji.
